All of this wouldn't be possible without EPISD's Community Engagement's help in promoting this event by posting in the district's social media sites like Twitter and FaceBook, and spreading the word through interviews with KTSM and KVIA. They also created our beautiful Election Central logos. EPISD Community Engagement's social media post about the mock election brought forth many positive comments for our district. Many parents sat down and helped them research and make sense of the information about the candidates and the issues. These same parents posted that they did not let their children know who they were voting for so that their children could make up their mind. Students also responded to various campus surveys to let us know what they thought of these elections. Once again, the event received many positive comments and thanks for allowing their voice to count, even if it was just a mock election. We give thanks to Gustavo Reveles, Vanessa Monsisvais, and their entire team for promoting this event.
Our EPISD Election Central website (https://tinyurl.com/episdelections2020) registered over 13,000 hits with over 7,000 being unique visitors. This was an increase of over 25% since the previous election. On this site we have the district voter results as well as the a page were you can watch the live broadcast recordings. Overall, we can say that the resources shared with our teachers, students, and the EPISD community were very welcome. Thank you 😀
We have received great suggestions from the entire EPISD community. Both parents and students have asked that we include all presidential candidates for both elementary and secondary and some have even suggested that we add the representative, senatorial, as well as the county and state election candidates. We knew that students would like to vote in a presidential election, but we are happily surprised they want to be a part of races that affect us locally.
We are definitely taking all comments and suggestions seriously and we hope to make the process better each time. Maybe we will have more broadcasts? How about live student debates and live student election updates? These are just a few of the ideas that have been shared by you, the great EPISD Community. We can't wait for the next elections. Let us know what you think of this process in the comments below.
Signing off for now, your EPISD Mock Elections Team. See you again at the polls!
